Course Description
Course Objective: You will create a database model based on relationships between
tables that hold data. You will automate tasks based on scripts, work with
functions and data found in external data sources. In addition, you will publish
your database on the web and provide utilitarian features to users.
Target Student: This course is for students who have some experience using FileMaker
Pro 10, but are finding that their needs for managing data exceeds their current
capabilities. This course is also relevant for students who need to share
databases with other users on a network or over the Internet.
Prerequisites: Before taking this course, students should have completed
the FileMaker® Pro 10: Level 1 course
or possess similar knowledge. In addition, they should be familiar with the
basic functions of their computer’s operating system. Students should
also have basic word processing skills, such as copying and pasting text,
formatting type, and so on.
Hardware Requirements
For this course, you will need one computer for each student
and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum
hardware configuration:
- Intel® Pentium® II or higher (Intel® Pentium®
III/IV-class recommended)
- 256 MB of RAM (512 MB of RAM recommended)
- 5 GB hard disk or higher if you use Windows XP Professional
as your operating system (You should have at least 600 MB free hard-disk space
for Microsoft Office installation)
- Access to any one of the following: a local CD-ROM drive,
a local DVD drive, or access to a networked CD-ROM drive
- Mouse or other pointing device
- Network cards and cabling for local network access
- Internet access (see your local network administrator)
- Printer (optional)
- Projection system to display the instructor's computer screen
- Printer driver (Printers are not required; however, each PC
must have an installed printer driver to use Print Preview.)
Software Requirements
Each computer requires the following software:
- Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 or Vista
- Default installation of FileMaker® Pro 10
- Default installation of Microsoft® Office 2007
- MySQL Server Community Edition 5.0 or above
- MySQL-Connector-ODBC version 3.51 or above
- Adobe® Reader® 8.0 and above
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- create relationships between databases and view relationship
graphs in a database.
- create buttons using the Button Setup feature to execute
simple and complex tasks, and the Manage Scripts window to work with scripts.
- share and exchange data over the network based on a predefined
privilege set and a customized privilege set.
- enhance the database layout using the various layout options
available in FileMaker Pro.
- publish a database on the web using the Instant Web Publishing
option.
- back up and protect data by adhering to the listed security
guidelines.
