Course Description
Course Objective: You will familiarize yourself with the basic components of personal
computers, log on to Windows 7, explore the Windows 7 interface, manage files
and folders, use the common tools and programs available in Windows 7, customize
the Windows 7 desktop, and browse the Internet.
Target Student: This course is targeted to individuals who do not have any background,
knowledge, or experience in computers and who need to use personal computers
at home or the office.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites required for this course.
Hardware Requirements
For this course you will need one computer for each student
and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum
hardware components:To complete an activity in Lesson 6, you will need a cleaning
kit consisting of:
- A 1 GHz Pentium class processor or faster
- Minimum 512MB of RAM or higher
- A 40 GB hard disk or larger
- 128 MB graphics processor that supports DirectX® 9.0
- A keyboard and mouse or other pointing device
- Generic Monitor (1024x768)
- CD/DVD R/RW drive
- High-speed Internet connection
- A few recordable CDs/DVDs
- An Uninterruptible Power Supply (optional)
- A projection system to display the insrtuctor's computer screen
- Monitor cleaning wipes
- Keyboard cleaning wipes
- Lint-free cloths
- Rubbing alcohol
- A mild household cleaner
- Cotton swabs (tightly wound)
- Lens cloth
- Window cleaner
- Toothpicks
- Artist’s paint brush
- Compressed air canisters
- Computer vacuum
- CD-ROM cleaning kit if you will be cleaning a CD-ROM drive
Software Requirements
Each computer requires the following software:
- Microsoft® Windows® 7 Ultimate Edition
- DirectX® 9.0
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- examine the parts that make up a personal computer to familiarize
yourself with the basic components and individual functions of each component.
- explore the Windows 7 operating system after logging on
to it using the personal computer.
- manage files and folders using Windows Explorer to navigate
to folders and manage files.
- examine the various categories of application software
to use them for various business needs.
- customize the Windows 7 desktop using the customizing tools
and shortcuts to personalize the desktop to suit your business requirements.
- identify best practices followed by professional personal
