Create the Domain Controller and Mail Server

    Note:

    If you already have an Active Directory domain controller, a DHCP server, DNS server, or mail server in your environment, you can use any or all of those server resources instead of creating a new server for class.

  1. Install Microsoft® Windows Server 2003, Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP2, with the following parameters.

  2. Configure the network settings.

    1. Choose Start→Control Panel→Network Connections→Local Area Connection.
    2. Click Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
    3. Configure the network settings as follows:

      • IP Address: 192.168.1.200
      • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.1.200

    4. Click OK and then click Close.

  3. Install additional Windows components.

    1. Choose Start→Control Panel→Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
    3. If necessary, check the Application Server and Email Services check boxes.
    4. Check the Networking Services check box and click Details.
    5. If necessary, check the Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) check boxes and click OK.
    6. Click Next.
    7. If prompted, provide the system files.
    8. When the installation is complete, click Finish and close the Control Panel.

  4. Promote the server to a domain controller.

    1. Choose Start→Command Prompt.
    2. Type dcpromo and press Enter.
    3. Click Next twice.
    4. Verify that the Domain Controller For A New Domain option is selected and click Next.
    5. Verify that the Domain In A New Forest option is selected and click Next.
    6. In the New Domain Name text box, type ourglobalcompany.com and click Next.
    7. For Domain Default NetBIOS Name, type GLOBAL and click Next.
    8. To accept the default database locations and Shared System Volume, click Next twice.
    9. Verify that the Install And Configure The DNS Server On This Computer And Set This Computer To Use This DNS Server As Its Preferred DNS Server option is selected, and click Next.
    10. Verify that the Permissions Compatible Only With Windows 2000 Or Windows Server 2003 Operating Systems option is selected, and click Next.
    11. In theRestore Mode Password text box, enter and confirm !Pass1234 and click Next.
    12. Review the settings and click Next.
    13. Click Finish.
    14. Click Restart Now.
    15. When the computer restarts, log on as Administrator.

  5. Configure DNS.

    1. Choose Start→Administrative Tools→DNS.
    2. Expand DC→Forward Lookup Zones→ourglobalcompany.com.
    3. Choose Action→New Mail Exchanger.
    4. For Fully Qualified Domain Name Of The Mail Server, type dc.ourglobalcompany.com and click OK.
    5. Choose Action→New Alias.
    6. For Alias name, type mail.
    7. For Fully qualified domain name for target host, type dc.ourglobalcompany.com and click OK.
    8. Close the DNS Management Console.

  6. Configure mail services.

    1. Choose Start→Administrative Tools→POP3 Service.
    2. Right-click DC and choose Properties.
    3. In the Authentication Method, choose Active Directory Integrated.
    4. Uncheck the Always Create An Associated User For New Mailboxes check box.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Select DC and click New Domain.
    7. In the Domain Name text box, type ourglobalcompany.com and click OK.
    8. Expand DC, and click ourglobalcompany.com.
    9. Click Add Mailbox, type administrator and click OK.
    10. If necessary, in the POP3 Service message box, check the Do Not Show This Message Again check box and click OK.

  7. Create users on the Domain Controller Server.

    1. Choose Start→Administrative Tools→Active Directory Users and Computers.
    2. In the console tree, expand ourglobalcompany.com and select the Users folder.
    3. Right-click the Users folder and choose New→User.
    4. On the New Object - User page, in the First name text box, type Student.
    5. In the Last name text box, type 01.
    6. In the User logon name text box, type student01 and click Next.
    7. In the Password text box, type !Pass1234.
    8. In the Confirm password text box, type !Pass1234.
    9. Uncheck the User must change password at next logon check box.
    10. Check the User cannot change password check box.
    11. Check the Password never expires check box and click Next.
    12. Click Finish.
    13. Repeat steps (c) to (l) for each of the remaining students until all have been added.

  8. Create mailboxes for all users.

    1. Open the POP3 Service control panel.
    2. Expand DC and select ourglobalcompany.com.
    3. Add Mailbox.
    4. For Mailbox Name, type student01.
    5. If necessary, in the POP3 Service message box, check the Do Not Show This Message Again check box and click OK.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Repeat steps (a) to (f) for all other user names that you added in the previous step using the Display Name as the Mailbox Name.
    8. Close the POP3 Service control panel.

  9. Note:

    Use these details for creating users:

    User’s Display Name: student01 through student06;

    Password: !Pass1234;

    Email Address: student01@ourglobalcompany.com through student06@ourglobalcompany.com.

  10. Create a shared folder.

    1. Navigate to C:\.
    2. Create a folder named Shared.
    3. Right-click the Shared folder and choose Properties.
    4. In the Shared Properties dialog box, select the Sharing tab and select the Share this folder option.
    5. Click the Permissions button.
    6. Verify that the Everyone option is selected.
    7. In the Permissions for Everyone section, in the Check the full control section, check the Allow check box.
    8. In the Permissions for dialog box, click OK.
    9. In the Shared Properties dialog box, select the Security tab.
    10. In the Group or users names section, select USERS[GLOBAL/Users].
    11. In the Permissions for Users section, check the check box below the Allow section, and click OK.
    12. In the Shared Properties dialog box, click OK.

Class Setup for Instructor and Student Computers

    Note:

    This course was developed using Windows XP. You can also use Windows Vista.

  1. Install Windows XP Professional SP2 with the following parameters:

  2. Set the system properties for the system.

  3. In Windows XP Professional, disable the Welcome screen. (This step ensures that students will be able to log on as the Administrator user, regardless of what other user accounts exist on the computer.) Choose Start→Control Panel. Click User Accounts. Click Change The Way Users Log On And Off. Uncheck the Use Welcome Screen check box. Click Apply Options.

  4. In Windows XP Professional, install Service Pack 2. Use the Service Pack installation defaults.

  5. Log on to the GLOBAL domain as student01 (password !Pass1234).

  6. Perform a complete installation of Adobe Acrobat Χ Professional.

  7. Perform a complete installation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus Edition 2010.

  8. You will also need to run additional software as described in the Course Requirements section. Perform a standard or full installation of the applications you use in addition to Adobe Acrobat Χ Professional.

  9. This course will run best if Acrobat's preferences are set to their default values. To reset settings, you could uninstall Acrobat, then reinstall using the Adobe Acrobat installation CD-ROM.

  10. On the course CD-ROM, open the 084548 folder. Then, open the Data folder. Run the 084548dd.exe self-extracting file located within. This will install a folder named 084548Data on your C drive. This folder contains all the data files that you will use to complete this course.

  11. Configure Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.

    1. Open Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.
    2. In the Outlook 2010 Startup wizard, click Next.
    3. Click Next.
    4. In the Account Configuration dialog box, in the Email Account section, verify that Yes is selected and click Next.
    5. In the Choose Service section, verify that the Internet Email option is selected and click Next.
    6. In the User Information section, in the User Name text box, type student01 and in the password text box type !Pass1234 and click OK.
    7. In the Windows message box, verify that the message stating that the ourglobalcompany.com domain has been created is displayed and click OK to restart.
    8. In the Systems Properties dialog box, click OK.
    9. In the Systems Settings Change dialog box, click OK to restart.
    10. In the Add New Account dialog box, in the User Information section, in the Your Name text box, type student01 and in the E-mail Address text box, type student01@ourglobalcompany.com
    11. In the Server Information section, in the Incoming mail server and the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) text boxes, type dc.ourglobalcompany.com
    12. In the Logon Information section, in the User Name text box, type student01@ourglobalcompany.com and, in the Password text box, type !Pass1234
    13. Click Next.
    14. In the Test Account Settings dialog box, click OK.
    15. In the Add New wizard, click Finish.

  12. In the Microsoft Office Outlook 2010, in the Home tab, in the Delete group, from the Junk drop-down menu, choose Junk E-mail options.

  13. In the Junk E-mail Options - <student#@ourglobalcompany.com> dialog box, in the Choose the level of junk e-mail protection you want section, select the No Automatic Filtering. Mail from blocked senders is still moved to the Junk E-mail folder option.

  14. In the Junk E-mail Options - <student#@ourglobalcompany.com> dialog box, click Apply and click OK.

  15. Make sure the font Arial is installed on the computer.

  16. You need to install two PostScript Printer Description files and add two printers for the Printing lesson. The course data includes URL bookmark files that you can double-click to download the files from the manufacturer’s websites. Double-click the AGFA PPDs URL file and the Tektronix PPDs URL file to download sets of PPD files for each company. If either of these URLs doesn’t work, double-click the Adobe PPDs for Win.url file to access Adobe’s download page for both printer drivers and PPDs. Once the files are downloaded, run the Agfa.exe and Tek.exe installer files, then use the Add Printer Wizard to add AGFA AccuSet 1500 and Tektronix Phaser 480X printers (uncheck the Automatically Detect And Install My Plug And Play Printer check box, and select the printer software manually).

  17. Set the monitor resolution to at least 1024 x 768 ppi.

  18. Printed with each activity is a list of files students should open to complete that activity. Many activities also require additional files that students do not open, but are needed to support the file(s) students are working with. These supporting files are included with the student data files on the course CD-ROM. Do not delete these files.
