For this course, you will need one system for the classroom to run Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition and Exchange Server 2010. The system should have the following minimum configuration:
Note: If you already have an Active Directory domain controller, a DHCP server, DNS server, or mail server in your environment, you can use any or all of those server resources instead of creating a new server for class.
Insert the Windows Server 2008 DVD.
On the press any key to continue screen, press any key.
In the Install Windows wizard, on the Windows Server 2008 screen, click Next.
Click Install Now.
If necessary, in the Type Your Product Key for activation page, enter the product key.
On the Select the operating system you want to install page, scroll down, and select Windows Server 2008 Enterprise edition (full installation) with 64-bit architecture.
Click Next.
On the Please read the license terms page, check the I accept the license terms check box and click Next.
On the Which type of installation do you want page, click Custom (advanced).
On the Where do you want to install Windows page, create a 80 GB NTFS partition and click Next to install Windows Server 2008.
The installation proceeds and the machine does an auto restart.
The server prompts you to change the Administrator password. Click OK and change the password to p@ssw0rd.
Observe the message stating that the password has been changed. Click OK.
If necessary, install Service Pack 2 (Windows 6.0 KB948465–x64).
In the Server Manager wizard, in the Server Summary list, in the Computer Information section, check the Do not show me this console at logon check box and click Close.
On the server, specify the system name.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and log on as Administrator.
Choose Start→Control Panel.
Note: Ensure that the Control Panel is displayed in the Classic View.
In the Control Panel, right-click Network and Sharing Center and choose Open.
In the Network and Sharing Center window, click the Manage network connections link.
Right-click Local Area Connection and choose Properties.
In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, in the Networking tab, in the This Connect uses the following items section, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box, on the General tab, select Use the following IP address option, enter the details given in the next procedure on IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.
Click OK and click Close.
Close the Network Connection window.
Choose Start→Run.
On the Run wizard, in the Open text box, type dcpromo and click OK.
Note: Ensure that the OS DVD is inserted into the drive.
In the Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard, click Next.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and log on as the Administrator.

Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
Note: The initial steps in this installation might vary slightly depending on where you have placed the software.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and log on as the Administrator.
Create a domain user account for each student in the class. (This course was developed using a first name of Student, a last name of ##, user logon names of Student##, and a password of p@ssw0rd. For instance, the instructor was Student00, the first student was Student01, and so on.)
Create the Conference Room A resource.
Similarly, create a Conference Room B and a Conference Room C resource.
Create the TV and DVD Player equipment mailboxes.
Grant administrator rights to Student 01.
Complete the installation of Windows XP Professional on a blank hard drive.
Assign IP address to the client machine.
Install XP Professional Service Pack 3. Use the Service Pack installation defaults.
Configure the computer to the member of the domain.
Log on to the client as Administrator with a password of p@ssw0rd. Click Options and in the Log on to drop-down list, select COMPANY and click OK.
Perform a complete installation of Microsoft® Office Professional Plus 2010.
Log on to the Company domain as Student## with a password of p@ssw0rd.
Configure Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.
Open Internet Explorer and browse to http://www.microsoft.com.
In the list of Microsoft sites, place the mouse pointer over the Downloads and Trials link and in the list that is displayed, click the Download Center link.
On the Microsoft Download Center page, click the Product Families link and click Windows.
In the list of downloads, locate the Windows Search 4.0 for WindowsXP (KB940157) link and click it.
On the WindowsSearch-KB940157 page, click Download.
Save it to your local machine.
In the Windows Search Setup dialog box, click Next.
On the Licence Agreement page, select I Agree and click Next.
On the Congratulations page, click Finish to complete the installation.
Open Internet Explorer and browse to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx.
Select the country and click the operating system type.
In the File Download-Security Warning dialog box, click Run.
In the Internet Explorer-Security Warning dialog box, click Run.
In the Install Windows Internet Explorer 8 wizard, select I do not want to participate right now and click Next.
Click I accept.
On the Get the latest updates page, click Next.
On the Internet Explorer installation is complete page, click Restart now (recommended).
Once the installation is complete, login as the respective student user.
To create a Windows Live ID login for each student:
Note: Please ensure that every student has a Windows Live ID to perform the activities in the lesson “Share PowerPoint Presentations.” Students who do not have a Windows Live ID can create one using the following steps.
Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar, type http://home.live.com and press Enter.
Click Sign Up.
Enter the sign in details.
Close the Internet Explorer window.
Verify that there are enough user names. There should be one for you and for each student in the class.
Assign students to work in pairs.
Provide a place card identifying each computer's user name.
Log on to the Company domain as the Student## user with a password of password.
In Outlook, delete the following items:
Empty the content of the Deleted Items folder.
Reset the color categories to the default color names.
Delete the 084594Data folder.
Extract a fresh copy of the course data files from the CD-ROM provided with the course manual, or download the data files from http://elementkcourseware.com.
Log on to each student workstation as the Administrator user.
On each student workstation and on the instructor workstation, open the course CD-ROM, and run the 084594dd.exe self-extracting file located within. This will install a folder named 084594Data on the C: drive. This folder contains all the data files that students will use to complete this course. If your course did not come with a CD, please go to http://elementkcourseware.com to download the data files.
Within each lesson folder, you may find a Solution folder. This folder contains solution files for the lesson's activities and lesson lab, which can be used by students to check their end results.
On the Instructor workstation, copy the messages Job Expo Supporters.msg, System Training.msg, and Samantha Alvarez Resume.msg from the 084594Data folder to the Drafts folder. Open the messages and send them to all users in the class.
From the Instructor workstation, send a meeting request from the Instructor to all users in the class and the resources, Conference Room A. The date of the meeting is one week from the upcoming Tuesday. The time is 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. The subject of the meeting is Team Meeting.
On each Student workstation, copy the contacts from the 084594Data folder to the Contacts folder in Outlook. The files that need to be copied are Andy Bloom.msg, Donna Teel.msg, Eve Alexander.msg, Grace Tori.msg, Jason Christopher.msg, Margaret Sherwood.msg, and Susan Barber.msg.
From the Instructor workstation, send a message with the subject “Lunch?” to all the students in the class. Also, from each student workstation, send a reply to that email message with a copy to all the other students in the class. This is to create a conversation in every student's Inbox.
At one of the Student workstations, create the tasks listed in the following table.

Copy the tasks to a flash drive.
Copy the tasks from the flash drive to the remaining Student's Tasks lists.
On each Student's workstation, create an appointment to have lunch with your manager Jim, in Fresno's. The date of the appointment is one week from today. The time is 12.00 P.M. to 1.00 P.M. The subject of the appointment is Lunch with Jim and the location is Fresno's.
Provide place cards identifying each computer's user name (Student ##). The entire class should be able to see each card.
Before you begin, assign students to work in pairs.
Customize the Windows desktop to display the My Computer and My Network Places icons on the student and instructor systems.
Right-click the desktop and choose Properties.
Select the Desktop tab.
Click Customize Desktop.
In the Desktop Items dialog box, check My Computer and My Network Places.
Click OK and click Apply.
Close the Display Properties dialog box.
