Topic A0:�� Classroom setup

All our courses assume that each student has a personal computer to use during the class. Our hands-on approach to learning requires that they do. This topic gives information on how to set up the classroom to teach this course.

Hardware requirements

Each student�s personal computer should have:

��� 1 GHz or faster 32- or 64-bit processor

��� At least 1 GB of RAM

��� At least 2 GB hard-disk space after operating system install

��� Video adapter card compatible with DirectX 9 or newer, with at least 64 MB video memory

��� A keyboard and a mouse

��� SVGA monitor at 1024 � 768 or higher resolution

��� Printer (useful but not required)

��� DVD drive if you�ll be installing via disc

Software requirements

You will need the following software:

��� Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate

��� Microsoft Office 2010

��� A printer driver (An actual printer is not required, but students will not be able to get an exact preview in Print Preview without a printer driver installed.)

Network requirements

The following network components and connectivity are also required for this course:

��� Internet access, for the following purposes:

��� Updating the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office 2010

��� Downloading the Student Data files from www.axzopress.com (if necessary)

��� Accessing the sample OLAP database in Activity C-3 of the unit titled �Exporting and importing.�

Classroom setup instructions

Before you teach this course, you will need to perform the following steps to set up each student computer.

1�� Install Windows 7 on an NTFS partition according to the software publisher�s instructions. After installation is complete, if the student machines have Internet access, use Windows Update to install any critical updates and service packs.

���� Note: You can use Windows XP or Windows Vista, but the screen shots in this course were taken in Windows 7, so students� screens might look different.

2�� With flat-panel displays, we recommend using the panel�s native resolution for best results. Color depth/quality should be set to High (24 bit) or higher.

3�� Install Microsoft Office 2010 according to the software manufacturer�s instructions, as follows:

a�� When prompted for the CD key, enter the code included with your software, and click Continue.

b�� Click Customize.

c�� Click the Installation Options tab.

d�� For Microsoft Office Excel, Office Shared Features, and Office Tools, click the drop-down arrow and choose �Run all from My Computer.�

e�� Set all except the following to Not Available: Microsoft Office Excel, Office Shared Features, and Office Tools.

f��� Click Install Now.

g�� On the last screen of the Office 2010 installer, click Continue Online. Internet Explorer displays the Office Online Web site, and the installer window closes.

h�� On the Office Online Web page, click the Downloads tab. Download and install any available updates.

i��� Close Internet Explorer.

4�� Configure Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.

5�� Start Microsoft Office Excel 2010. Then do the following:�

a�� Activate the software, if prompted. After activation, the Welcome to the 2010 Microsoft Office System dialog box appears.

b�� Select �Don�t make changes� and click Finish.

6�� Change Excel Options to disable Protected View settings and to display the Developer tab, as follows:

a�� On the File tab, click Options.

b�� Select Trust Center and click Trust Center Settings.

c�� Select Protected View and clear �Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet.�

d�� Click OK to save settings.

e�� In the Excel Options categories, click Customize Ribbon.

f��� Under Main Tabs, check Developer.

g�� Click OK. Close Excel.

7�� Start Internet Explorer and configure it to use Express Settings. When asked about Suggested Sites, choose �No, don�t turn on.� Close Internet Explorer.

8�� If you have the data disc that came with this manual, locate the Student Data folder on it and copy it to the desktop of each student computer.

���� If you don�t have the data disc, you can download the Student Data files for the course:

a�� Connect to www.axzopress.com.

b�� Under Downloads, click Instructor-Led Training.

c�� Browse the subject categories to locate your course. Then click the course title to display a list of available downloads. (You can also access these downloads through our Catalog listings.)

d�� Click the link(s) for downloading the Student Data files. You can download the files directly to student machines or to a central location on your own network.

e�� Create a folder named Student Data on the desktop of each student computer.

f��� Double-click the downloaded zip file(s) and drag the contents into the Student Data folder.

CertBlaster software

CertBlaster pre- and post-assessment software is available for this course. To download and install this free software, students should complete the following steps:

1�� Go to www.axzopress.com.

2�� Under Downloads, click CertBlaster.

3�� Click the link for Excel 2010.

4�� Save the .EXE file to a folder on your hard drive. (Note: If you skip this step, the CertBlaster software will not install correctly.)

5�� Click Start and choose Run.

6�� Click Browse and navigate to the folder that contains the .EXE file.

7�� Select the .EXE file and click Open.

8�� Click OK and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted for the password, enter c_xl2010.
